| ADC | Analog to Digital converter |
| Analog | An electrical signal that is quantified with any varying degree of voltage levels. |

| CCITT | International consultative committee on telecommunications and Telegraphy. CCITT changed their name to ITU-T on March 1, 1993 |
| CFMN | Client for Microsoft Networks. |
| Client | A computer or application that can request a resource from a server. |
| Connectiod | Generally a DUN object that specifies your connection settings. |

Digital to Analog |
| DAC | Digital to Analog converter |
| Digital | An electrical signal that is quantified by two discrete signal levels. Low signifies 0 or off, High signifies 1 or on. |
| DUN | Dial-Up Networking. It allows your computer to use a phone line to establish a network connection. See POTS. |
| FKS | Frequency Key Shifting |
| IETF | Internet Engineering Task Force. Drafts most Internet standards. See ISOC and RFC. |
| ITU-T | International Telecommunications Union. CCITT was the former name, prior to March 1993. This organization, together with industry leaders, discuss and decide on new telecommunications standards. They are primarily responsible for advancements in Modem technology. |
| ISOC | "Internet Society". The organizational home of the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force), the Internet Architecture Board , the Internet Engineering Steering Group , and the Internet Research Task Force . Specific activities include support for the RFC Editor Function of the IETF. |

MOdulator DEModulator. This device communicates on a phone line. See POTS and PSTN. |
| PBX | Private Branch Exchange. An internal phone system, usually in an office or motel. Allows other members of the office to call each other without using the PSTN. |
| PHP | Stands for PHP Hypertext Processor. See http://www.php.net/. |
| POP3 | Post Office Protocol Version 3. This is the most common protocol for downloading email. |
| PKS | Phase Key Shifting |
| POTS | Plain Ordinary Telephone System. Basically the equipment and infrastructure for the phone company. |
| PSTN | Public Switched Telephone Network. As opposed to a PBX. |

| RFC | Request For Comments. A draft by the IETF for a proposed Internet standard. See ISOC. |
| Server | Serves a resource to clients on a network. |
